Many places around the world claim to have great waters for swimming and snorkeling. Many of the best places are located in the Caribbean and one of the best destinations for snorkeling in the Caribbean is the island of Antigua. This jewel of an island, located in the Leeward islands has the perfect features to make it a must do for underwater adventure.  Snorkeling the waters of Antigua starts with the fact that the entire island is almost completely surrounded by some of the most lust and vibrant coral reefs in the world. Combined with the fact that the island has been blessed with very mild near shore currents, exploring the underwater world is safe and easy for most swimmer.

We would like to begin with a destination for the entry level snorkeler. If you are just getting your feet wet (so to say)a great place to start is Darkwood Beach, located on the western side of Antigua, Darkwood beach is quite and has calm clear waters where beginners will find lots of wildlife to explore.

Snorkeling Destinations

A great destination for the more adventurous diver or snorkeler is Deep Bay. On the bottom a little over 30 feet down you will find a boat that has waited your exploration for over 100 years. Teaming with fish and sea life Deep Bay will never give you a chance to be bored when you’re snorkeling the waters of Antigua.

For shear numbers of fish and coral and all other forms of underwater beauty, Cades Reef is for good reason one of the most popular snorkeling destinations in Antigua. Part of the Cades Bay Marine Park, Cades Reef is a plethora of undersea life.
