The Caribbean’s best sand
The Caribbean’s best sand is a wide open question. With the hundreds of beautiful beaches on the dozens of world class destinations, the quality of sand can be pretty subjective. At first blush most people assume that sand is sand. The color, coarseness and structure of sand can however vary tremendously however. The most vivid example is the black sand beaches of Hawaii to the snow white sand on the beach at Destin Fla.. Of The Caribbean’s best sand, one of our favorites and a perennial top 5 picks is the sand of the Caymans.
The Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands, a group of three islands located just south of Cuba and about half way between Jamaica and Mexico have a lot going foe them and their sand is one of the best. The largest of the three islands, aptly named Grand Cayman, ha on it’s west side one of the jewels of the Caribbean, Seven Mile Beach. For as far as the eye can see you have the powdery white sand to enjoy. This beach, often mentioned in “the worlds best” countdown is gloriously under crowded and the sand is more the consistency of powdered sugar.
If the sparsely populated beaches of Grand Cayman seem too crowded, try a trip to Little Cayman. this tiny almost uninhabited island is as beautiful as it is quite. The sand here is the same coral based sand as on Grand Cayman, just in a more secluded setting. When on Little Cayman you should remember. the sand under the water is just as memorable. Practically the entire island is surrounded by shallow snorkeling adventures and dives that take you out to the wall. The marine life is some of the most varied in the Caribbean and the same coral that is responsible for the perfect beaches is vivid and thriving in its living form.
The third of the Caymans is Cayman Brac. We included Cayman Brac less for it’s beautiful soft white beaches and more fore the snorkeling and diving. With a tremendous variety of diving and snorkeling venues you can do anything from shallow water to diving the wall and even dive on some very interesting wrecks. This variety makes Cayman Brac one of the Caribbean’s top dive destinations.
