The grand daddy of all tropical cocktails….

The grand daddy of all tropical cocktails….

With the hot steamy days of summer fast approaching, everyone needs to start worrying about their health. Whether having to spend the day on the hot sand of your favorite beach or forced to dance the night away in a sultry night club, dehydration is something that needs to be kept at bay. The drink of choice for anyone knowledgeable in tropical medicine is the world famous Margarita. If you are on a sailboat, walking the beach looking for shells or at the grill putting the perfect seer on today’s catch, few things are as light, refreshing and favored for summertime as the classic Margarita. Working to keep your fluid levels up need not be a chore on hot tropical days and with the salted rim, cramps can be avoided as well. Best of all the dreaded plague of scurvy will be a thing of the past with regular treatments of a vitamin C rich Margarita.

The simplicity of the Margarita is it’s real strength.

The classic Margarita is…

1 1/2 oz. of good Tequila …. I stress GOOD Tequila, for a basic Margarita, cheap Tequila will be less than good.
1/2 oz. of orange liqueur…. Triple Sec will work, but you will taste the difference if you use a higher end product. For a heavier richer flavor we like using Grand Marnier. For a lighter fresher drink try Cointreau.

2oz. fresh squeezed lime juice… no good substitute here. Roses lime juice or sour mix are poor choices unless you are making Margaritas by the gallon or you just don’t care about good taste.

We at Buffet Beach hate the current cocktail trend. People seem to think any blend of ingredients with Vodka can be called a

Martini or with Rum can be called a Daiquiri. The same hold for Tequila. The list of “Margarita” recipes is… well lets just say, wrong. Let’s get real, a chocolate Margarita??? a Candy Corn Margarita??? REALLY? While it is sad that anyone would want to screw around with the simple perfection that is a Margarita, if you must… we did find two drinks that are pretty good. Whether these should be called a Margarita, we will debate that later… maybe over a pitcher of them.

1 can frozen Limeade
8 parts Tequila

2 cups pineapple juice
1/8 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
